Virtual interviews

All interviews in this year's recruitment round will take place virtually.

Selection centre

The selection centre process will be managed through a virtual interview on Tuesday 14 April and Wednesday 15 April 2026. 

In exceptional circumstances this date may be amended, and every effort will be made to advise applicants in good time.

Virtual Interview stations will be:

Clinical Management 

This station will asses the following domains of the Orthodontic ST1 Person Specification:

• Management & leadership (organisation and planning/thoroughness, managing others and team involvement, vigilance and situational awareness and coping with pressure)
• Personal, professionalism & commitment (resilience, flexibility, teamwork and professional integrity).

Clinical Experience

This station will assess the following domains of the Orthodontic ST1 Person Specification:

• Clinical training and experience
• Insight into career progression
• Commitment to the Orthodontic Specialty
• Participation in audit, service evaluation or quality improvement
• Effective communication skills

NHS Values and Insight

This station will assess the following domains of the Orthodontic ST1 Person Specification:

• Probity and professional integrity
• Empathy and sensitivity
• Managing others and team involvment
• Coping with pressure and managing uncertainty
• Communication

All stations will be 15 minutes each.

Scoring

Scores will be collated from the verified self-assessment score together with the interview score.

Lay representation 

A lay representative will attend the selection process to ensure that all panels are consistent and managed in accordance with the agreed process.

The lay representative will not score candidates. They are there to make sure that panels' decisions are fair and equitable. 

Documentation

You may be asked to bring certain documentation with you to the virtual interview. 

Failure to bring the specified documents may result in applicants not being interviewed.
