The Four Nation Postgraduate National Recruitment Programme Board has issued a position statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during interviews for all postgraduate training programmes, including Dental Core and Dental Specialty Training Programmes.

While we acknowledge the potential that emerging technologies have on enhancing learning and professional development, we also recognise the risks they pose to the integrity and fairness of the interview process. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools during interviews may provide an unfair advantage to applicants.

To ensure a fair and equitable interview experience for all applicants the use of AI technologies, including but not limited to AI generated responses, virtual assistants, real-time transcription tools, and automated scripts, will not be permitted during online interviews. We understand that some applicants may use assistive technologies to support communication or processing needs. Where this applies it is an applicant’s responsibility to declare as part of the reasonable adjustment process.

We expect all applicants to engage in the interview process genuinely and independently, and provide responses that reflect their own knowledge, experience, and judgement.

Any applicant who is found to be using AI or other automated technologies during the interview will be disqualified from the recruitment process and may be referred to the relevant professional or regulatory body.

Assessors have been given guidance on signs of AI use during interviews. They may ask you to expand on your response or provide challenge during an interview if they become aware of signs. If an assessor continues to suspect unauthorised use of AI, an applicant may be disqualified from the recruitment process and may be referred to the relevant professional or regulatory body.

This statement ensures that all candidates are clear on our expectations and will be part of a recruitment process that is fair and uses an effective selection method.

AI will continue to evolve and we will continue to monitor the impact of the use of AI tools during interviews as well as keep track of the latest developments and update this statement and guidance when appropriate.
